Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and knead until smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out onto a floured surface.
  6. Cut the dough into tree shapes and place shredded mozzarella on top of half the pieces, then cover with the remaining shapes.
  7. Place the shapes on a baking sheet and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
